DESFILE MAURÍCIO 90 ANOS

The Monica and Friends universe takes over the Sambadrome

On Sunday, June 28th, 2026, the Distrito Anhembi Sambadrome will host a historic tribute. The Mauricio 90 Years Parade celebrates the trajectory and legacy of the creator of Monica and Friends (Turma da Mônica), whose work has been officially recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of São Paulo.

The free spectacle is expected to gather around 30,000 people across different generations in a major tribute to Brazilian culture. It offers the public a free and accessible program that highlights the author’s vital role in inspiring new readers while transforming the city into a stage of memories and enchantment.

4 themed floats and over 400 artists on the avenue

The performance will bring four themed floats and over 400 cast members to the Sambadrome runway, including artists, dancers, performers, instrumentalists, and the classic characters who defined the childhood of millions of Brazilians, such as Monica, Jimmy Five (Cebolinha), Smudge (Cascão), and Magali.

Driven by an original soundtrack, the parade will retrace the most iconic milestones of the cartoonist’s career. Attendees will also witness the debut of “Paulistinha,” a mascot created by Mauricio de Sousa especially for São Paulo, starring in an exclusive comic book with 30,000 free copies distributed during the event.

Special operations, accessibility, and city-wide circuit

To ensure convenience and comfort for families, the event features a comprehensive accessibility setup, including real-time audio description, Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) interpretation of the official soundtrack, and specialized assistance for deaf or hard-of-hearing attendees.

Public transportation will also run on a special scheme: SPTrans will provide two exclusive electric bus lines for the public, connecting the Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Portuguesa-Tietê stations directly to Distrito Anhembi from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Additionally, residents can use municipal buses free of charge through the Domingão Tarifa Zero (Free Fare Sunday) program. The celebration extends with additional initiatives throughout the capital, which will feature 91 themed sculptures, giant inflatables, interactive workshops scattered across squares and parks, and much more.
