POC CON
THE LARGEST LGBTQIA+ COMIC BOOK FAIR IN LATIN AMERICA
In 2026, Poc Con has a new home and will take place at Convention Hall 02 in Distrito Anhembi on June 5 and 6.
Created by Mário César (Bendita Cura) and Rafael Bastos (Você viu Vitor?), Poc Con brings together and celebrates LGBTQIA+ artists from Brazilian comics and graphic arts during São Paulo’s Pride Parade season.
Brazilian comics are experiencing a golden age: hundreds of new talents have emerged in recent years, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally. Comic events have been multiplying across the country, and in this vibrant scene, many queer authors are also rising and adding new colors to Brazilian visual arts.
In addition to the fair featuring artists and publishers, the event offers a series of professional workshops and a rich schedule of lectures and talks about the comic book market, graphic arts, animation, and games. It also addresses issues of representation and sexual and gender diversity in geek culture and pop culture.
The event also hosts an innovative cosplay contest, where participants not only dress as their favorite characters but also perform by lip-syncing a song of their choice.
What does POC mean?
POC comes from an old slang term that was once used to mock more effeminate gay men. The name originates from the sound of high heels walking: “poc poc.” Today, it’s a term used to refer to someone who is queer. We want to help transform what was once an insult into something affirming of our identity. After all, we are POC — so what? What’s the problem?
